Our sweet little boy is finally here!

Jackson Adams has arrived! 10-8-2010 at 8:43pm. 6 pounds 5 ounces 19 inches long.

Friday October 1st, 2010 0100- PRETERM LABOR
I started to feel some contractions. I went to work and got off at 11:00am There were not getting better when I walked and were about 15 minutes apart (or so I thought). I called the doctor and Ethan and I went to the hospital. Come to find out I was in preterm labor. My contractions were actually 4 1/2 minutes apart I just couldn't feel all of them. At that time I was dilated to 1 cm, 70% effaced, and -2 station. My cervix didn't change anymore so I got to go home. Later that night my contractions became more frequent so we returned to the hospital. My contractions at that time were 2-3 minutes apart but still not changing my cervix, so back home we went to wait for our appointment on Wednesday October 6th.

Wednesday October 6th, 2010 1100- THE WAITING GAME BEGINS
I had continued to have contractions since our two visits to the hospital. We went and saw Dr. Miller and she stated we were still 1cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was put on bed rest. She said if we went into labor on our own they would let me deliver, but they would not induce me at this time. And so, the waiting game begins.

Friday October 8th, 2010 0930- "Either I peed my pants, or my water just broke"
Ethan and I were laying in bed watching TV, when I felt a gush of fluid. I asked Ethan to get out of the way. He asked if everything was OK and responded with "well, either I just peed my pants or my water just broke." I went to the bathroom and decided that there wasn't enough fluid for this to be my water breaking, so I went back to bed. In the next two hours I felt like I was leaking. I called a friend and she told me to "just call the doctor". I called St. Lukes and spoke with Liz. I told her "I don't know if my water broke or not" and she said "well I have the answer for you, come on in and we will find out". Ethan had to be to work in 30 minutes, so he called and got some people to take his shift. We made it to the hospital at 12:00. Liz was our nurse and what a fantastic nurse she was. She tested me with some special paper that tells you if your water did break. The strip had to turn navy blue. The first test she did turned light blue. Liz said "I would call this negative, but lets check one more time to make sure." The second strip was darker and she said "well, I would call this one positive." She got a third test ordered and we sent that off to the lab. We found out 10 minutes later that my water did break and we would be having our baby soon!

Friday October 8th, 2010 1400- JACKSON WAS BORN AT 2043.
We were admitted to our room. Ethan ran home and tied up some loose ends. While he was gone, my friend Lana came up to supervise. I had dilated to 2cm and was 90% effaced. I made sure the nurse knew I wanted an epidural. The anesthesiologist had to do a c-section and a appendectomy before he could get to me. Liz had to leave for the night, but my on coming nurse Jackie was just as wonderful. When she got here I was 4cm dilated, 90% effaced and at +1 station. About an hour later I had to use the bathroom Dr. Wollen came in to check me and stated there was another small bag of fluid that the baby was pushing on. This is what was keeping him in the position at that time. While she was checking me, the bag broke. Jackie explained it like this "think about a golf ball in a coke bottle". My anesthesiologist still had not arrived to place my epidural and my contractions were getting worse and worse. They paged the anesthesiologist again and he finally arrived within the next 15 minutes. Boy was I ready. The nurse checked me and I was dilated at 6cm. After the epidural was placed. They repositioned me in bed. I told the nurse that I felt a lot of pressure, so she checked me and I was at 9cm. With the next contraction, I had the urge to push, she checked me again and I was 10cm and complete I went from 6cm to 10cm in 5 minutes. Talk about a rush of pain. She notified Dr. Wollen and we got ready to push. My epidural didn't have time to kick in. I only pushed for about 10 minutes and Jackson was born at 2043. Ethan had the biggest smile on his face the entire time. He was my true support system. 2055- My legs finally went numb.

We got to spend one hour with our little guy with no interruptions. Our family was waiting in the lobby making phone calls. Jackson had a lot of visitors. My parents, Ethan's parents, Sara and Chris, April and Brian, Patty and MC, Kathy, Logan and Brynn, and Jeff and Laura.

Jackson was 4 weeks early but was able to breathe on his own. He is a great nurser and cuddler. He came out with a full head of hair. So far, he has Ethan's relaxed personality, but everyone says he looks more like me. I can never tell who a baby looks more like. All I know is he is darn cute:)

I am blessed to have such a wonderful husband who helped me through this! I love you Ethan.
We have joined the elite club of parenthood, so far it's AWESOME!

Our busy weekend

Ethan and I went to our birthing class on Saturday. We both learned a lot. They went over pain management, pain interventions, different stages of labor, and postpartum. We got to use different pain intervention techniques and pick which ones worked for us. We had a lot of fun doing this, and were able to really connect on another level. They had us hold ice in our hands and try out the pain intervention techniques we picked. Ethan is going to be a great coach. We are still going to go to the new born class, breast feeding class, car seat class, and feeding class. This Saturday we realized how much left we really have to do. The crib comes in on August 26th. I can't wait to set up the room.

On Sunday, my sister Sara took our maternity pictures. We didn't take too many, but the ones we got were pretty cute. At about 3:00p.m. I had sharp pains in my abdomen that were getting worse when I walked. We called the doctor and they made us go in. I was hooked up to the monitor, and come to find out, it was my ligaments stretching. Which was good news. We have about 12 weeks until we get to meet our son.

27 weeks and counting

We had another appointment yesterday. We got to see our baby again. I can't wait to meet him. Everything looks great. His foot is 2 inches already. Our appointments are every two weeks now, which I am super excited for. I love being updated and hearing the heartbeat. I can't believe we only have 13 weeks left. This journey has gone so fast, but we are ready for the next chapter!

I recently accepted a weekend night position. Starting September 4, 2010, I will work every Saturday and Sunday night. Ethan and I had talked about this being a possibility, so I put a requests in about 3 months ago. One of my managers came to me last week and told me there was a position available. We wanted to wait until after I got back from maternity leave, however these positions are few and far between. I picked up an extra shift this past weekend to meet the staff I will be working with, and had a positive experience. This is great news because after the baby is born, we will not have to pay for daycare since I will have weekdays off. :)

NFM called and said they could not find the part for the crib. They ended up giving us store credit to pick out another crib. My sister and I went and picked out a crib that looked identical. The only problem is the crib was on back order for 6 weeks. Ethan and I will pick the crib up August 26th, 2010. His room will be set up by the first weekend in September. Super exciting!

My sister and brother-in-law got great news about the adoption. They are done with the home studies and after the report is made, the will officially be on the waiting list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. the baby is moving like crazy these days.

Thanks for all your support!

Starting his room!

Ethan and I wanted to set up the baby's crib before Father's day. We took everything out of the package and they gave us the wrong part. Ethan Called NFM and they are supposed to get back to us on Tuesday or Wednesday. Babies R Us called us today and said our glider was in. I went to pick it up and my sister, brother-in-law, mom and I put it together. It didn't take as long as I thought it would. Hopefully we have the crib set up within the next couple of weeks so we can start decorating.
We have not decided on a name for baby boy Adams yet, but we have narrowed it down to a short list. So far we have made it to the Gs in the baby name book. Ethan wants to wait until our baby is born before we decide on a name for him. We will probably have two names to choose from at that time. I can't wait. Tomorrow June 22, 2010 we will be 20 weeks. HALF WAY THERE :) Looking back on this journey so far it has gone by so quick. I can't believe June is almost over.
Ethan is getting more and more excited which makes me more excited. He is going to be a wonderful father!

Love you all,
Ethan and Vickie

Baby Boy Adams

We went to our doctor's appointment yesterday. We are 19 weeks today! Due Date is still November 10, 2010. We had our second ultrasound. The first one was at 5 weeks and our baby looked like a peanut. Before we went into our ultrasound, Ethan and I both wrote down on a piece of paper what we thought it would be and a note to each other. Yesterday, we got to see the head, arms, legs, heart, and yes, his penis. IT'S A BOY. Once we found out, we opened our notes and we both guessed correct :) His note to me was so sweet and reminded me again why I married him. One week leading up to our ultrasound, Ethan and I kept telling our baby to show us what he/she was. The first picture the women got was of his "goods". He was doing a handstand in my belly. He moved from the handstand to a ball. They need one picture of the other side of his heart but he has to be in a very specific position, so we will have a repeat ultrasound in 8 weeks to get that picture. Yay, more pictures :)

We called our parents first. My dad was hoping for a boy and was so excited when I told him the news. He actually didn't believe me at first :) We then called Ethan's parents who were on a road trip. Ethan said "I have a question about the house, does it have enough room for another boy's room?" His parents were so excited they were shouting... let's just put it this way, they were not on speaker and I could hear them partying on the other end :) I called my mom but couldn't get a hold of her. When she finally called me back, I asked her what she thought the baby was. She said "girl" and she was shocked when I told her nope she was going to have a grandson. Almost every person I called, I made them tell me what they thought I was having before we would tell them. The only person that said boy was my grandma Rosie :)

We went shopping after that. we picked out four outfits and a bear all for $23 at JC Penny's. It was so nice to be able to go into a store and get something gender specific. We will be setting his crib up this week! Baby Boy Adams does not have a name yet, so send your suggestions our way!

Love,
Ethan, Vickie, Baby Boy Adams, and Baxter

Our Baby's Bedding

We found the perfect bedding over the weekend. Sara, Chris, Ethan and I went out to USA BABY to look at stuff. We've looked online and at stores and we couldn't find anything we really fell in love with. When we saw this one, we thought it was something we hadn't seen before. Both Ethan and I kept going back to it. It was the only one left so we bought it! It's red, brown, giraffe print and stripes. It looks more boyish in the picture but when you see it in person all put together, it could go either way :) Once we find out what we are having, we are going to make the room either more girl or more boy. The brown squares and red squares are that super soft fuzzy material :)

update, it's been too long

We haven't been on since November, so there is a lot to catch up on. For starters, NYE3 was awesome. We get together with the same group every year. Usually it's at our friend Kristen's house, but she had family in town so it was moved to our house. We can count on NYE to get together every year. We are hoping for the 2011-2012 New Year we can all take a cruise or a trip somewhere. Most everyone will be graduated at that time. My New Year's Resolution: #1 read more. Last year mine was to read a new book every month, which I did!!! This year I would like to increase it from 12 books to 18. If you have any good books you would like to suggest, let me know. #2 Sara and I are going to train and run a 5k (Chris wants to do this too, but I am still working on Ethan). I start my training tomorrow. Even though I played basketball, I hate to run. I never understood how people could enjoy running, so I am going to try. We are planning on doing our first 5k in March/April.
We have our first basketball game this Saturday. Our team is Royal Blue. The girls are getting better every week. I am kind of nervous for our first game since we haven't had practice for 4 weeks now.
Sara and I had a blast at ezartkc.com. We are going to do either the tiger or dragonfly on Jan 23, 2010. http://www.ezartkc.com/calendar/ I would like to do the tiger because Ethan is a MU fan. He is planning on putting that painting in the game room, or "man cave" as he likes to call it.
Ethan and I have narrowed our choices down for the Golf Academy. Tied for first is Orlando and Phoenix #3 SC and #4 San Diego. Hopefully we will be visiting Orlando and Phoenix before the end of the year. We don't plan on moving until 2011. We are going to wait until we are 100% debt free, so depending on how hard we work it could be before then.
That's all I have for now. We will try not to wait so long before our next post. Love ya!

New Moon is finally here! Saturday afternoon we got a big group to go and had a blast. Sunday, Ethan, Sara, Chris, and I went to see it again. It was just as good the second time. I have started reading Breaking Dawn again just to get my Twilight Fix. The great news is that Eclipse comes out June 30, 2010 which is right around the corner :)
I am coaching MC's basketball team this year. Our first practice is December 1. Ethan is going to be my assistant coach which will be a lot of fun. This is our first year coaching and we are coaching 5th and 6th grade girls, wish us luck!!
We celebrated Thanksgiving with the Adams at Starlith's house this year. Dinner was wonderful, as ususal. We will be celebrating Jacob's 5th Birthday this Sunday.
Sara and I are gonig to EZart this coming Friday. Our first painting is Mystic Night. Check it out at www.ezartkc.com We figured we needed a hobby, and what better hobby then painting and drinking. If this turnes out well, we will try to do this monthly.
April and Brian will be coming home for Christmas. I have to work Christmas Eve and Christmas, so we will be celebrating Christmas with the Bryant's on December 27. December 26 we will be celebrating my 25th birthday at Tasso's Greek Restaurant. We will be drinking, breaking plates, and belly dancing. Love you all!

It's all for the Pups

Our first pub crawl was a success. Three bars, 4 pitchers per bar, 6 man team. It was Ethan, myself ,Steve, Jaclyn, PJ, and Amanda. We had a blast and it was all for a good cause. Baxter is getting excited to wear his Halloween costume, which is a shark, in a couple of weeks. We keep putting it on him hoping he will start to love it. He loves wearing the body of the shark, just not the hat. Ethan and I are doing really good with our budget. We are saving lots of $$$. My mom and I will be going to our Youth Friends training on Wednesday. We are going to be Youth Friends for my sister's School. We don't really have anything coming up that I can think of, other than getting ready for the Holidays. Talk to you all soon!!
